General Description: This webinar & workshop is designed for professionals of color—at any career level and in all professions—to learn how they can leverage their racial identity as an asset in their careers. This 75-minute session will feature successful professionals of color sharing career experiences that helped them discover how their distinct characteristics can work in their favor. The session will also introduce attendees to skills-building steps to put this valuable information into practice, based on the initial findings from the Observations’ research study, “Racial Identity as a Career Asset.”

Luis A. Rivera, MBA, CAE is a healthcare association executive with more than 30 years of experience in different aspects of association management who has implemented several initiatives requiring strategic, financial, technical, and operational skills. He has extensive experience in board relations, governance, leadership development and staffing committees. He currently serves as the Senior Director of State Management Affairs for the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology, in Rosemont, IL. Mr. Rivera has served in six different roles of increasing responsibility during his tenure with AANA. He has been certified as a Certified Association Executive (CAE) by ASAE - The Center for Association Leadership since 2000. In 2023, Mr. Rivera was selected to receive an Honorary Membership in the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology in appreciation for his many years of service at AANA and his commitment to the profession of nurse anesthesia.
